In line with Islamic teachings, VRIC strives to guide families through the Janazah process with compassion, care, and efficiency. Whenever possible, we aim to arrange the Janazah prayer within 24-48 hours after initial contact.
What to expect, step by step.
Every situation is different. This overview helps your family prepare while VRIC guides the arrangements and coordinates with service providers.
Step One: Contacting Rahma Funeral Home
If you plan to hold a Janazah at VRIC, please contact Rahma Funeral Home first. Rahma will walk you through their options and services.

Rahma Funeral Home can assist with:
- Transportation and temporary care of the deceased
- Ghusl and kafan, including washing and shrouding the deceased
- Securing a burial plot within the DFW area
- Transportation to VRIC for Salat-ul-Janazah
- Transportation from VRIC to the burial site
Step Two: Connect with VRIC's Point of Contact
Rahma will give you the Point of Contact (POC) number for VRIC Janazah Prayer arrangements.
Here are a few of the questions the POC will ask you:
- Where do you live? Must live within our service area. (Irving, Coppell, or Farmers Branch)
- Full legal name of the deceased?
- Date of death?
- What date/time would you prefer for the Janazah Prayer?
- Family point of contact: name, email, and number.
- What cemetery and grave lot do you have reserved?
Step Three: Janazah Announcement Request (Optional)
If you or the deceased is a VRIC member, you may request a community Janazah announcement.
Step Four: The Janazah Prayer
We advise the deceased’s family and friends to arrive at VRIC 30 min before the allotted time.

What to Wear To Attend a Funeral at Our Mosque
Please wear modest, respectful clothing that covers the arms and legs. Women are encouraged to bring a head covering. Shoes are removed before entering the prayer area, so clean socks are recommended.
What to Expect During the Funeral Prayer
The Islamic funeral prayer, called Salat al-Janazah, is a brief standing prayer offered for the deceased. There is no bowing or prostration. The Imam will lead the congregation through four statements of “Allahu Akbar,” followed by quiet prayers asking God to forgive and have mercy on the deceased. If you are unfamiliar with the prayer, you are welcome to stand respectfully with the congregation and follow along.
The Burial and After:
What to Expect at the Burial Site
The burial location will be announced after the Janazah prayer. At the burial, please remain quiet and respectful. Ladies wait to approach the grave until the men have finished the burial. Crying is permitted, but loud wailing is not.
Step Five: Azza - Condolences (Optional)
A simple Azza may be arranged for gatherings of fewer than 300 people. This is available to our members who live within the VRIC service area (Irving, Coppell, & Farmers Branch). Food and beverages are not permitted. Dates and times are subject to facility availability.
If the Azza will be held at a location other than VRIC, please share the details with us. We can include the location, date, and time in the Janazah announcement.
What does Azza mean
Azza is a simple gathering held any time after the funeral where family, friends, and community members offer condolences, say prayers for the deceased, and provide comfort and support to the grieving family.
