Marriage Services at VRIC
VRIC provides simple Nikkah services that fulfill the religious and legal requirements of an Islamic marriage. Ceremonies are officiated by a VRIC-approved officiant and do not include additional wedding or reception services.
The groom must be Muslim. The bride may be Muslim, Christian, or Jewish, commonly referred to as “People of the Book.”
Before You Register
Please have the following information ready:
- Texas Marriage License: An official marriage license issued by the State of Texas is required. VRIC cannot perform a Nikkah without a valid Texas marriage license. You can apply for one here.
- Mahr (Dowry): The couple should discuss and agree on the mahr the groom will give the bride. State its financial value in U.S. dollars. This information will remain private and will only be shared with the administrator preparing the documents and the officiant.
- Wali (Bride’s Guardian): Please identify the bride’s guardian, typically a close male relative, before submitting the request.
- Shahadah Certificate: If either applicant has taken the shahadah, please provide a copy of the shahadah certificate. If you did not receive one from VRIC or another masjid, please contact our Outreach Committee for assistance. A shahadah certificate may also be helpful when preparing for Hajj or Umrah, so we encourage converts to keep a copy for their records.

What to Expect During the Nikkah Ceremony
